February 4, 2005, Newsletter Issue #38: How Many Cups Per Pound of Coffee?

Tip of the Week

HOW MANY CUPS OF COFFEE PER POUND?

It sounds like an easy question: How many cups of coffee can you brew from one pound of whole beans?

The question is simple, it`s just the answer that gets a little complicated! It would be much easier if everyone had the same idea about the size of a `cup`? Do you mean one of those dainty after-dinner coffee cups? Or maybe one of those big caffe-latte cups? Or a mug even?

And how much coffee do you put in the coffee maker? Do you add a little extra for a stronger cup of coffee?

As you can see, there is no accurate answer, because we all use different cups.

But here`s a guideline for you, assuming you use an `average` sized cup. For each pound of whole coffee beans, you can expect to brew 30-40 cups of coffee.
