April 7, 2006, Newsletter Issue #54: Organic coffee beans

Tip of the Week

Put simply, organic coffee comes from coffee plants that have been grow without the use of artificial fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides. In the context of the coffee growing regions, ´organic´ enables growers to farm their plantations in a sustainable, chemical-free way. If you want to buy organic, gourmet coffee beans, expect to pay a little more. As with all organic foods, the higher price reflects the higher costs associated with organic growing. Also, you´ll find you have fewer coffees to choose from - at least for now.
